Yesterday, J.K. Rowling's Tales of Beedle the Bard was released to much anticipation. However, as it was a Thursday, few kids were buzzing around to pick it up when bookstores opened. There was a lot of buzz about it nevertheless, and it garnered me a quote in today's Ottawa Citizen: "We've sold quite a few, and people are asking about it; but it's not like the mass hysteria of the Harry Potter books," said Garry Drake, an assistant manager at the Chapters store on Rideau Street, where the book is available in French and English editions. "Maybe there will be more of a rush later." (I did indeed say these things - journalists can be trusted after all!) The book is creating a lot of buzz worldwide, too. Originally, Rowling produced 7 handwritten copies, giving six away and auctioning the seventh off for charity - it sold for $3 million. The sales of the book, now that's it's published worldwide, will also go to charity, as will her royalties. Read more about it here.
The Guardian has a humorous take on the buzz that is Harry Potter, with Alison Flood writing a live blog chapter by chapter. She seems to be somewhat of a bitter betty, making it all the funnier.
