June Poll

The process of selecting the next book club title has begun! So far we have three contenders - The Road by Cormac McCarthy, Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy and Midnight's Children by Salman Rushdie. From what I can tell, all are worthy contenders. Let the voting begin! Everyone is invited to vote on our next selection and leave a comment telling us why we should read that particular book. Also, if there are other titles you feel we should consider, put those forth as well and we will vote. Voting will end next Friday, however, and the reviews will start popping up by month's end.

I'm voting by default for Midnight's Children. I've read The Road and I can't vote for my own pick, Blood Meridian. Made that choice easy.

Not sure how I would have voted otherwise!

Yeah, I've read Midnight's Children - though I wouldn't mind re-reading it - and I picked The Road, so it's Blood Meridian for me. Remember, though, you can vote as many times as you want! It's my day off tomorrow - I'm going to sit by the computer all day and vote over and over.

Should we add another book that nobody has read just so we're all reading something fresh? I haven't read anything on the list so it doesn't affect me... but I know some people don't like reading books twice.

I also think we should open the site up to movie reviews so we can help each other not go see bad movies... like that Indiana Jones and the cheap, plastic-looking crystal skull piece of garbage I had to sit through last week. Just because Harrison Ford makes fun of himself in the movie doesn't make it any less tolerable.

Yeah, movie reviews seem like a natural extension. Perhaps, though, we should only review movies that are literary adaptations...

Regarding the Indiana Jones movie, I thought it looked like expensive plastic, at least. I did enjoy it, though - especially when the villain was killed at the end - it's always satisfying to see the villain killed in the end.

Yes, it was better than Baby Mama, I'll give it that!
