Next month's pick

Even though we haven't finished debating the "merits" of King Leary, it's time to nominate titles for next month's pick. Once everyone has a pick, we'll vote. The only catch is you can't vote for your own pick. And outside voters are definitely welcome. So get your thinking caps on!

I'll go first: The Road by Cormac McCarthy. Even though it's an Oprah's pick, it looks enticing. We've all seen No Country For Old Men and loved it - let's try another of his master works.

Garry's pick: The Road by Cormac McCarthy.

My suggestion is Midnight's Children by Salman Rushdie.

To quote an Amazon.com reviewer:

"It's a masterpiece, brilliantly written, wildly unpredictable, hilarious and heartbreaking in equal measure."

Funny how The Road came up. I was going to suggest Blood Meridian, also by Cormac McCarthy. I read The Road about a year ago. It's excellent, despite being an Oprah book club selection (I'm pretty sure she's not picking those books -- she being the woman responsible for Dr. Phil).

Also, my review for King Leary is forthcoming. I just haven't had a chance to sit down and write it....realizing the irony of that sentence as I write.
